1. Buy a dress.

Yes, its that easy.

Most of the time we when think of winter we think of leggings, sweaters, puffy coats and wellies....I hope to god you don't fall into this category this year. Luckily for you, designers have fused technology with fashion to create great winter dresses that wont make you feel like an asshole for walking around outside without real pants. You just need to follow a few of tips and you wont regret leaving the house in heels instead of Hunters.

1. Fabric, Fabric, Fabric.....the worst thing to feel when your outside in winter is, well, the cold. Pick a fabric that keeps you warm and keeps you comfortable. Designers have come up with stretch wool, stretch leather, wool crepe, ponti, scuba, and a slew of blends for you to lay your hands on. Just stay away from those lightweight summer cottons, they're not made for cold weather.

2. Invest in a pair of cashmere or wool tights.....Don't be a dummy. If you like in New York, like I do, if you don't have a pair of these you're liable to get frost bite on your legs, somedays within 10 minutes of going outside! With a pair of these babies you wont need to worry, best of all they don't have to be expensive. Macys, Barneys, and Saks all have them. They're easy to find and if you treat them well, you only need one pair all season.

3. Think of the dress as a layering piece. Add sweaters, jackets, tees, belts whatever.....It doesn't have to be just a dress.

And lastly....4. Find some closed-toed boots you aren't afraid to get dirty in. Don't do the sky high platforms in the snow if you can barely walk in them during the summer (and definitely don't buy boots that will melt if they come in contact with any water source). Be smart, there are so many boots out there, you'll find one to fit your lifestyle (and wardrobe needs).

These are my favorite 3 choices for winter dresses, pick one and make it your own.
